June – Pre Season
Up here in the North the season officially start the 1st of June, and the first 2 weeks is most often the spring flood. This is the perfect time to fish deep with big streamers, or heavy nymphs.
Chasing bigger fish, I like to fish heavy sinking lines and big streamers.
And what a early season it’s been.
5 fish above 4,5 lbs(2,1 kg) and more than 20 fish between 2,5-4 lbs(1,2-1,8 kg)
After rain comes sunshine, and the rivers started to get back to normal, and a lot of mayflies start to hatch. The first good hatch was the Leptophlebia, and some trout reacted fast to these normalsized bugs.
I had a great day by one of the most difficult rivers up here, and found a really good fish.
And after that it felt like the rivers really woke up, and we could find more and more good sized trout eating from the surface.
Latest 2 weeks we have caught about 99% of the fish on dryflies, and we got more than 10 fish past the 3 lbs mark ( 1,4 kg ) with two top fish 4,5 lbs(2,1 kg) and 5,5 lbs(2,5 kg)
In this moment we have a great hatch of Danica, Yellow mayflies and Baetis. And also still some Vulgata in some lakes.
The trout loves mayflies!
Now we are a week in to July and we’ve seen more and more caddis, and then we now a lot of big trout will start to feed on pupas and adult caddis. Going to be a fun month.
Still have some open dates in August for our private stretch. If you’re intrested to make a visit just send us an email jon@northerntroutguides.com

Westcoast Searun Browns
Every year in both April and September I try to spend as much time as I can at the swedish westcoast fishing for shiny Searun Brown Trout.
When the premiere started at the 1st of April, me and Klara was standing there in at the shoreline throwing our shrimp imitations.
Last year April were really cold, so it was nice having a warmer spring this year when you’re standing in the water almost 7-9 hrs/day.
First couple of days was a success.
We found some good fish.
Later on I had a couple of flyfishing courses and also some guided days.
And all our clients caught fish.
I managed to have 14 days at the coast, with 43 fish caught.
19 fish over the 45 cm mark, and 8 fish over 50 cm. With 3 fish over 2 kg, top fish 67 cm.
In August/September I’m back at the westcoast. The autumn can give you some great fishing!
If you’re interested to book a course or maybe a guided full day, or maybe just a half day, please send me a email.

Season Premiere!
In this moment the ground is covered with snow, and it’s not many celsius degrees outside.
It’s the time you can tie some flies, check your gear and making plans for the upcoming season.
But Sweden is a long country and the season for Searun Brown in the south is TOP right now and a couple of more months.
In March you can also have really good fishing in shallow bays for big pike. And numbers.
In a good day you will catch 5-15 pike, but in a great day you can catch the double without a problem.
For the most of us, april is the time a lot of rivers open up and also it’s allowed to fish the swedish westcoast for Searun Brown.
April is the biggest chance to get in contact with both numbers of Searun Brown, but also size.
A lot of fish are hungry after a cold winter and also the spawning period.
Some fish are therefore colored and skinny, and those fish called Kelts, are cool to catch, but for most of us coastal fly fishers we rather catch the shiny silvery ones.
Since the winter can be mild in the south of Sweden you can most years also fish for Brown Trout in some rivers in april, and find the first rising fish eating midges and stoneflies, but also some smaller mayflies which start to hatch in the middle of April.
If you’re interested in maybe flyfishing for big pike in shallow water, catching some shiny Searun or maybe sneak up on the first rising trout of the year, please make a booking. The best dates are going fast this time a year. Don’t forget that we always have dates for flyfishing courses.
